WHAT CAN JOHN SENSE ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?:
He is a skeleton with zero physiological processes! But he's also not undead, as in like a reanimated skeleton. Fane is from a race of people that are truly immortal, so he never died in the first place. He was just locked in a tomb without magic for so long that all of his flesh fell off and rotted without the food/water/etc necessary to sustain it. :)
His life-energy/soul/whatever you want to call it is tethered to the skeleton, and I think because of his immortality, it would probably seem to be a much stronger bond than most anyone else. He has the Shard playing into it now obviously, but I feel like this would still be noticeable.
But in terms of interesting soul stuff, he does seem to have been "touched" by the divine, if this is something John could sense. Fane isn't a god himself, but is a Chosen One of a god in his world.
